Best Before Workout Smoothie

I like working out in the mornings, because I like getting it out of the way, and the release of hormones and adrenaline keeps me pumped for the rest of the day. But, I absolutely cannot workout on an empty stomach; not only is my mind reluctant, but my body is not ready for those gruelling mountain climbers… or burpees!

So, enter best before workout smoothie… Ever! This smoothie has it all, it’s got the fruit factor, the sweetness, and it’s deliciously nutty, Mmmm. The thing that makes this morning drink so great is that it has all the essential ingredients to power you up for an intense workout (if you’re planning on walking the dog as exercise, then you don’t necessarily need all the ingredients).

What’s in this mouth watering drink that will help you not only get through, but destroy that workout? Well, get ready to screenshot the ingredients down below:

  • 1/2 banana
  • 120ml milk of choice (almond, coconut, semi skimmed)
  • Preferred amount of vanilla protein (I go for one scoop)
  •  1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Crushed walnuts

These are some optional bits I like to add for an extra power boost:

  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds (or flax/hemp)
  • 1/2 tablespoon almond butter
  • A few peeled almonds

The best part about this delicious drink… No sugar or sweetener needed!

Because this smoothie has it all (and more), it can be your breakfast. The banana has the potassium, the nuts have the healthy fats, and the protein powder will keep you powered up!

Tasty tip: powder some cinnamon on top of the smoothie for extra flavour.
