Glowy Makeup/Skin Haul

Glowy skin .JPG
My ultimate glow tools.

Glowy makeup seems a little hard to achieve during winter time – thanks to cold, harsh winds – but trust me, carry on reading and hopefully you’ll get some tips on how to get the glow. This all starts with a little (quite big) trip to Boots (as it always does)     dewy makeup finish in the colder seasons. This may get a little long, so grab a tea and get comfy, and let’s glow! *pun intended*

  • Super Facialist Rose Hydrate Cleanser by Una Brennan, £7.99

To achieve the best glowy makeup finish, it is absolutely essential to have hydrated and moisturised skin. Figure out what your skin type is and work with it – if it’s oily, sensitive or dry, you need to work around that. I absolutely love the Una Brennan Cleanser because of its creaminess, it leaves my skin feeling super soft. The cleanser has shea and coconut butters in it which really leaves my skin looking radiant (we need that glow). I tend to have quite sensitive skin, and I mean sensitive. One full day of makeup and my skin will start breaking out, which is why I always opt for this cleanser because it’s really soothing for my skin. I cleanse my face twice a day (morning and night), regardless of whether or not I have been wearing makeup. Some of us *you know who you are* tend to skip this crucial step if we don’t wear makeup, because we think our face is clean – wrong! Our skin goes through much during the day and it is so important to give it a nice scrub. And with this rose scented cleanser, how can you not want to, it smells soooo good.

  • L’oreal Paris Extraordinary Facial Oil, £13.33

I’ve wanted to get my hands on a facial oil for so long now, but there are so many out there that I didn’t know where to start. I went for the L’oreal one in the end because Kaushal Beauty swears by a lot of their products so I thought I’d give their Extraordinary Oil a go. And I am so, so glad that I did, I am obsessed with this stuff. The cold weather tends to makes my skin a bit dull looking, but this oil replenishes my skin and makes it look radiant. This product is made up of 8 essential oils and it really does help to brighten the skin. Even if you don’t want to wear makeup, it’s an amazing product to use on its own for an effortless glow.

  • Clinique Super Primer, £21

I have a slightly uneven skin tone so it’s really important for me to colour correct before I apply my base makeup so that everything looks smooth and even. The Clinique Super Primer both primes and colour corrects – I mean who doesn’t want a double functioning product? The product is not at all heavy and creamy, like some primers that I have used, but it’s really lightweight so it doesn’t even feel like I’m wearing anything. I bought the primer in the peach shade (there’s 4 varieties altogether) as it specifically targets discolouration, and it blends in with my skin really well so that I don’t have to use as much foundation/concealer to hide my pigmentation.

  • No7 Skin Illuminator, £12.50

I got this product as a sample with my No7 lipsticks, and I absolutely loved it, so I definitely had to get my hands on more. It comes in two shades: Nude or Bronze, I went for the nude because it works really well to give more of a subtle glow. Because this product is so lightweight, I mix it in with my foundation so that it leaves my skin looking naturally dewy. Some illuminators/highlighters can be quite shimmery which can look a little artificial, but the No7 Illuminator is so subtle (you can even wear it on top of your makeup as a highlight), and you only need the smallest amount.

  • L’oreal True Match Liquid Highlight, £4.99

If you think you need to invest heavily into a highlighter that is so glowy everyone’s liking your insta posts and asking where you got it from, then you need to head towards the L’oreal counter. A recent addition to their range, the True Match Highlighter is such a beautiful product that will completely change your highlight game. It comes in two shades: Golden Glow and Icy Glow – I chose the Golden Glow because it’s perfect for medium to dark skin tones, and I kid you not, it’s absolutely amazing. It’s so lightweight (think there’s a trend here) so it blends really easily into the skin. It works great to enhance your features or to give your complexion an overall glow.

  • Elizabeth Arden Bold Illuminating Liquid Highlighter, £26

This product really is as amazing as it sounds. It is such a gorgeous golden colour which is great for all skin tones. Because it has such a lightweight texture, when applied, it gives a translucent sheen to the skin, making it look naturally dewy. I love this highlighter because it blends seamlessly into the skin and complements all makeup looks. When I’m going for a bronzed/golden makeup look, this is the highlighter that I reach for. Elizabeth Arden Highlighter + a subtle glowy eyeshadow look (usually done using the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette) = perfection.

  • Sanctuary Illuminating Moisture Lotion, £2.99

Now this is a great product for those days you don’t want to wear a lot (or any) makeup, but still want a fresh glow to the skin. Because this product is a lotion, it doesn’t actually feel like I’m wearing anything (totally naked), but my skin LOOKS radiant. It has a SPF of 15 so you’re skin is always protected (even in rainy England, we need protection). This product promises 24hr hydration, which I was a little skeptical about at first (don’t all moisturisers say that?) but it really is long lasting. Most lotions I’ve used don’t absorb very well into the skin, and tend to leave my face feeling quite dry, but this one is really hydrating and works well with makeup. There’s absolutely no reason why anybody shouldn’t give this a try, it’s only £2.99 so there’s no excuse!

  • L’oreal Paris Glam Bronze Cushion Soleil, £14.99

So, we’re onto the last product (hope your tea didn’t go cold), and it’s another L’oreal one. I’ve heard some great things about this bronzer, so I had to give it a try. It’s a liquid bronzer in cushion form (now doesn’t that sound appealing) and it’s such a great product to use for a bronzed glow. I use this bronzer to give my skin a subtle glow, and because of its liquid texture, it’s really easy to blend. This isn’t a heavy, pigmented product, so it’s great for either minimal make up days or as a base for building up the bronze.

SO, we’ve made it to the end, and hopefully some of these products will help you guys achieve that glowy & dewy makeup look this winter. Let me know which products are your faves, and of course any of your own, I’m always looking to add to my collection.

Birthday Makeup Treats

August 24th – the day I get one year older (obvs), and a day full of so many treats (food is also included). I’ve been very lucky this year, I have been showered with so many amazing gifts that I am beyond thankful for, and I want to share them with all of you.

I thought I’d make a post dedicated just to the makeup I received and bought – have to treat yourself on your birthday, right? – because I have to properly discuss everything makeup related (duh).

We’ll kick this off with the base makeup:

*NARS Sheer Glow Foundation – (£31)

*Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation – (£30)

*Stila Perfecting Concealer – £15)

*MAC Studio Finish Concealer Duo – (£20)

How do I even begin to describe this foundation? It’s every thing I’ve been looking for in a bottle. It has such a light texture, almost watery, which is great for a sheer finish, and for those who prefer high coverage looks, it’s extremely buildable, without looking cakey. I like medium to high coverage, so I usually go for two applications, and it blends in with my skin so well. And if that’s not enough, the best thing about this foundation is that it gives me the most amazing, flawless, dewy finish! (if you prefer a matte finish, I suggest you check out the NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint – £30). I personally feel that using a Beauty Blender gives me the ultimate glowy finish, because the sponge really presses the foundation into my skin without looking streaky – which is usually an issue with brushes. I fell completely in love with NARS Sheer Glow from the first use, and it’s definitely going to remain a staple product in my makeup bag for a long, long time. It’s really worth visiting a NARS counter (I went to the one in Selfridge’s in Birmingham), and having a test of this foundation, I promise you will not be disappointed!

I’ve heard so many things about the Double Wear foundation range – good and bad, so obviously I had to see what the deal was for myself. I never buy foundation without having it sampled on my skin first (yep, sometimes you gotta have your makeup removed, *cries*), and it’s always worth it. I did have my doubts with this foundation because for some it’s too heavy, but I was really impressed. It is high coverage – I mean, it is double wear – and it’s supposed to be, but if you prefer something more lightweight then this isn’t for you. It’s not the foundation of choice for an everyday wear (it is a very dense product), but if you are going for an airbrushed finish (think Kim K), then this is an amazing product. It covers up blemishes and imperfections really well, and the best thing: it does not transfer. Because this is foundation is so long lasting, it’s what I reach for when I have an event such as a wedding or a party, so I don’t have to worry about my makeup running off by the end of the night.

This little treat has been on my wish list for a long time, so I decided to buy it as a gift for myself (just had to). I’ve watched a lot of makeup tutorials, and the Stila concealer features positively in many of them so I had to give it a try. This is a high coverage product, and reminds me a quite a bit of my old favourite, the Maybelline Eraser Eye concealer, so of course I’m really chuffed about this. This product is great for not only concealing unwanted dark circles, but also highlighting underneath your eyes to give you a more lifted look. As this is a high coverage concealer, it is essential that you set it well. I find that a translucent powder works best, so I usually go for the NYX HD Finishing Powder, which prevents the concealer from creasing. I would’ve preferred either a pump or a wand for this concealer so I can control the amount I need, but other than that, I have no complaints.

These concealers are so handy, they’re pigmented, compact and have a really smooth texture which is the best combination there could be. I use the first shade as a colour corrector because it has a peachy undertone so it’s great for correcting under eye discolouration. The slightly yellow shade on the right works great for brightening dark areas such as the under eyes and around the mouth which tends to be a problem area -especially for Asian skin tones. Both of these colours work really well together to give you a nice, even complexion, so you’ll have the perfect base for your foundation. If you’re looking for easy to blend concealers that don’t budge – then give this duo a try, you have no excuse, there are MAC stores/counters everywhere.

Talking of MAC, I also got two beautiful lipsticks that I’ve fallen completely in love with.

lipsicks.JPG
Left to right: Intoxica, Velvet Teddy

*Intoxica- £15.50

*Velvet Teddy – £15.50

Just look at them, they’re so pretty *insert heart eye emoji* Both lipsticks are amazing, and they both have a matte finish which I love. I like pairing a bold lip with a minimal makeup look, and Intoxica works perfectly for that. Velvet Teddy is a new favourite of mine, I absolutely LOVE it! It’s the perfect nude shade, with a beautiful orangey undertone to it. The lipstick looks great on its own, but I also like pairing it with a lipliner as well, usually another fave of mine – Rimmel, Spice which is a gorgeous burnt reddish colour. MAC has an amazing range of lipsticks and I can’t wait to add to my collection!

So, that’s it for this post! I’ve loved sharing some of my favourite treats, and I know I’m going to have a lot of fun using everything. If there’s anything on here that you guys are tempted to buy, please let me know, and as always, if there’s something you absolutely adore at the moment, I’d love to know. I’m always looking to add more to my makeup bag!
